Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has called time on his international career with Gabon after feeling “humiliated” by his exclusion and subsequent reinstatement following a dismal campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, according to reports in ‘Mundo Deportivo’.
The Panthers captain was initially dropped in the wake of their group-stage exit, which concluded with three straight defeats. “They humiliated me and tarnished my image, even though I played the AFCON injured. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back, and I prefer to call it a day,” he revealed.
At 37 years of age, Aubameyang, Gabon’s all-time record goalscorer, bows out with the national side engulfed in crisis. “The national team’s problems are much deeper than who I am,” the striker insisted, leaving new head coach Sebastien Migne to face the future without his talisman.
