Newcastle have struck a verbal agreement with Manchester City to sign Nico Gonzalez, with the Spanish midfielder set to seal a move worth around €55m.
Nico Gonzalez is closing in on a switch to Newcastle. Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday that the Magpies have struck a verbal agreement with Manchester City to secure the 24-year-old Spanish midfielder.
The former Barcelona graduate is poised to arrive as Sandro Tonali’s replacement following the Italian’s dramatic summer departure to Tottenham. According to the transfer specialist, the deal will be wrapped up for a fixed fee of €55 million alongside a further €3 million in add-ons.
Nico Gonzalez is expected to play a key role under Matthias Jaissle. The midfielder arrived at Manchester City from Porto in January 2025 in the wake of Rodri’s injury, but was unable to nail down a regular starting berth.
