Barcelona announced the convening of an Extraordinary General Assembly on 21 December. At the meeting, the club’s new deal with Nike will be put to a vote. The vote will be held telematically.
FC Barcelona will hold an extraordinary general assembly on 21st December with the vote on the new contract with Nike as the only item on the agenda, the club announced on Wednesday.
The vote will be held telematically on 21st December, at 10.30am on first call and 11am on second call, and the table will be set up in the Auditori 1899 room, in the vicinity of the Spotify Camp Nou.
Barcelona announced on 9th November that it had reached a multi-year agreement, effective from this season, which could bring the club the highest sports sponsorship of all existing ones, sources from the negotiations told ‘EFE’.
The agreement with the US company was due to expire in 2028 and came after Barcelona had received an important offer from Puma and had even considered manufacturing and distributing its own brand of clothing.
All this led to a dispute between Barca and Nike that ended up in court and the courts ruled in favour of the US multinational. At the beginning of the season, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta explained in an appearance that the conditions of the agreement had been improved and assured that “when it is signed” it would be “the best contract in the world of football”.
“The signature would have allowed us to sign 1:1 and sign without problems, but we are working to get the best contract for Barca and now we are in the process of negotiation,” he said at the time.
Although the figures have not been disclosed, and with the pro-rata signing bonus, the signing of the contract could bring Barcelona around 120 million euros per season.
The agreement will increase from 2028, when the current contract expires, and the increase will be substantial from 2028 until 2038, when the contract expires.
