According to Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona are weighing up a contract extension for Gerard Martin and could open negotiations with the Catalan defender in the coming weeks.

The ‘Cules’ are delighted with the 24-year-old’s performances. He has won over not only Hansi Flick but also sporting director Deco, with the Camp Nou boardroom holding his versatility and commitment in high regard.

Gerard Martin signed an extension in early 2025 running through to 30 June 2028, meaning he will have just one season remaining after this one. That contractual situation, combined with summer interest from clubs in England and Italy, has prompted the FC Barcelona hierarchy to act.

The transfer specialist reports that the plan is to tie Gerard Martin down to a “long-term” contract. The defender is currently in his third season with the first team, having already clocked up 103 appearances.
