FC Barcelona announced through an official statement on Wednesday morning that Andreas Christensen has committed his future to the club until 2028.
Deco continues to fortify FC Barcelona’s long-term project, confirming on Wednesday that a mainstay of Hansi Flick’s defensive ranks has agreed fresh terms. Andreas Christensen has put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension, a deal that ties him to the Catalan giants until at least June 2028.
The 30-year-old Dane is set to embark on his fifth season at the club since arriving from Chelsea in the summer of 2022. While a string of persistent fitness setbacks has hindered his consistency on the pitch, he remains a pivotal figure within the dressing room. Flick is banking on his return to fitness for a campaign where defensive solidity will be the bedrock of Barca’s ambitions.
Christensen’s progress was recently stalled by a partial tear of the cruciate ligament in his left knee, an injury that forced him to miss the final stretch of the previous campaign. Despite the layoff, Deco has moved to secure the defender’s future, rewarding his reliability with a new deal that ensures his wealth of experience remains available to a burgeoning young squad.
The centre-half has registered 98 official appearances for the club and is closing in on his century, despite being limited to 18 outings last term and six the year prior. He proved to be a fundamental cornerstone of the side during his first two seasons under Xavi’s tutelage in La Liga.
