Frenkie de Jong is expected to extend his contract with Barcelona following his decision to part ways with his longtime agent. While legal formalities are still pending, both parties show mutual willingness to agree on a renewal.
Barcelona are calm about Frenkie de Jong’s contract renewal, despite some bureaucratic hurdles. The Dutch midfielder, who turned 28 on 12 May, is still keen to extend his contract with the Blaugrana.
However, according to Sport, the renewal cannot go ahead until De Jong formally dissociates himself from Ali Dursun, his agent since his days at Ajax Amsterdam. The Turkish agent has become a sticking point between the parties, as Barcelona do not currently recognise him as a valid interlocutor to negotiate the contract extension.
Although Barcelona hopes that this change will be formalised soon so that they can sit down to negotiate, the current situation generates uncertainty about the process. The club is positive about the willingness of both parties to reach an agreement and avoid the departure of the player, whose contract expires on 30 June 2026.
De Jong ruled out an offer from Manchester United in the summer of 2022, demonstrating his priority to stay at the club. After overcoming the ankle injury that plagued him during the 2023-24 season, the player established himself as third captain under Hansi Flick.
