FC Barcelona have officially confirmed the signing of Josue Caicedo, with the versatile Ecuadorian teenager arriving in Catalonia on an initial loan deal. The 18-year-old, who can operate as a full-back or winger, joins Juliano Belletti’s Barca Atletic in a move that includes a €2.5 million purchase option.
Ecuadorian left-back Josue Caicedo is set to bolster Barca Atletic for the 2026-27 campaign. The 18-year-old youth international joins the FC Barcelona reserve side on loan, linking up with a squad currently competing in the Segunda Federacion, the fourth tier of the Spanish pyramid.
The deal struck between the ‘Blaugrana’ and Liga de Quito includes an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the current season, as confirmed by the Catalan giants on Monday.
This season, Josue Caicedo enjoyed a breakthrough into the LDU Quito first team, making seven appearances in the LigaPro – Ecuador and earning a debut in the prestigious Copa Libertadores.
“Caicedo is a left-back with enormous potential and a distinctly offensive mindset. He stands out for his physical presence, his ability to cover the entire flank, his power, and an explosiveness that allows him to create imbalances in the final third,” the club noted in an official statement. “His versatility also allows him to play in more advanced positions on the pitch, specifically as a left-winger.”
