Johan Manzambi remains a significant doubt for Switzerland’s World Cup quarter-final against Argentina after failing to take part in full training with the squad just 48 hours before kick-off.

The young Switzerland forward has yet to rejoin group sessions, leaving his availability for the clash with Lionel Scaloni’s side at Arrowhead Stadium increasingly uncertain.

Manzambi picked up the issue in training ahead of the last-16 win over Colombia and has since been working separately from the main group. That pattern continued in Switzerland’s first session in Kansas City, where he was seen wearing a strapped knee and moving cautiously on the sidelines.

One of the breakout performers of the tournament, with three goals and two assists, the Freiburg forward has been a key attacking outlet for Murat Yakin’s side, but his involvement now appears in serious doubt.

Should he miss out, Sevilla midfielder Djibril Sow is expected to come into the starting XI, offering a more physical presence in midfield as Switzerland prepare for one of their biggest tests of the tournament.
