Karim Adeyemi has lifted the lid on the unusual food he credits as one of the driving forces behind his blistering pace.

Karim Adeyemi has long been renowned for his electrifying pace, famously setting a speed record in the Bundesliga by clocking an astonishing 36.7 km/h. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona forward explained in an interview with CBS Sports that he attributes his searing speed to his father’s genetics and the cuisine of his Nigerian roots.

The revelation came in the wake of his stunning solo goal against Chelsea in the Champions League in February 2023. When quizzed about the origin of his pace, Adeyemi pointed to his African diet and singled out fufu, a traditional staple widely celebrated across West Africa.

Fufu is a soft, dough-like dish typically prepared from starchy foods such as cassava. It appears to be doing the trick: Adeyemi has since reached 37.28 km/h in a Champions League showdown against Real Madrid, eclipsing the record mark he had previously established in the Bundesliga.
