Newcastle United are set to appoint Matthias Jaissle as their new head coach after agreeing to pay Al Ahli an €11 million compensation fee to secure the German’s release.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Jaissle will sign a contract running until June 2030 and is expected to arrive on Saturday for his official unveiling at St James’ Park. The 38-year-old will take charge following Eddie Howe’s departure and is set to oversee Newcastle’s preparations for the new season.
Jaissle has built an impressive reputation during spells at Red Bull Salzburg and Al Ahli, earning plaudits for his progressive style of play and his ability to develop young talent. His appointment signals Newcastle’s intention to continue building a long-term project under fresh leadership.
The move also highlights the close links between the Saudi Public Investment Fund-backed clubs, with Newcastle agreeing to compensate Al Ahli to bring one of the most highly regarded young coaches in the game to the Premier League.
With the deal now effectively in place, Jaissle is expected to join Newcastle’s pre-season camp in Spain before turning his attention to preparing the Magpies for the start of the 2026/27 campaign.
