According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are set to resume negotiations with Newcastle United next week as they step up their pursuit of midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

According to Fabrizio Romano, fresh club-to-club talks are expected to take place in the coming days, with the Gunners preparing an improved offer after their initial proposal of around £70 million failed to make a breakthrough.

Arsenal have already agreed personal terms with the Brazil international, who is understood to be open to the move to north London. The midfielder remains one of Mikel Arteta’s priority targets as the club look to strengthen the heart of their squad before the new season.

Despite the progress made with the player’s representatives, the transfer will ultimately depend on Newcastle’s willingness to negotiate.

The Magpies are yet to indicate whether they are prepared to sanction the departure of one of their most influential players and are expected to demand a significantly higher fee before considering any agreement.

With personal terms already in place and Arsenal ready to increase their bid, attention now turns to Newcastle’s stance as the Gunners attempt to prise one of the Premier League’s leading midfielders away from St James’ Park.
