Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has addressed the future of Julian Alvarez, making it clear that while he maintains a strong bond with Joan Laporta, the Argentine forward is staying put in the red and white stripes.

Plans for the 2026/27 Atletico Madrid campaign are already in motion. Following the club’s long-standing tradition, the annual suckling pig dinner was held in Segovia, where club president Enrique Cerezo spoke to the gathered press.

One of the primary talking points was the future of Julian Alvarez and the club’s relationship with the FC Barcelona board. “Joan Laporta is a dear friend and a fantastic president,” Cerezo said. “He knows perfectly well, as you all do, exactly where Julian Alvarez will be playing next year.”

“Everyone makes mistakes in life. Everything is forgivable,” he added. Cerezo also discussed the future of Diego Simeone, whose current contract is set to expire in June 2027: “Contracts can be fleeting or they can be eternal; here, it is an eternal contract.”

On the subject of Atleti boasting the highest number of players in a World Cup final, he noted: “Having 10 players involved is a significant achievement, isn’t it? It is practically an entire team.”

To conclude, Cerezo offered a cryptic message regarding the Champions League final, which is scheduled to take place at the Metropolitano: “Let’s see if you can help us reach the final in our own stadium. You have to know how to play the game off the pitch as well. I say this for your benefit, as the team is excellent even when they lose, just as you portray Real Madrid.”
