With one year remaining on his contract, Gianluigi Donnarumma is reportedly prepared to stay at PSG despite the arrival of Lucas Chevalier, setting up a significant battle for the Paris Saint-Germain No. 1 spot.
With Lucas Chevalier set to join Paris Saint-Germain, Gianluigi Donnarumma has not ruled out staying at the club until his contract expires in June 2026, despite the direct competition for PSG’s goalkeeping position.
PSG, anticipating their Italian goalkeeper’s potential departure, started contacts in recent weeks to close in on the transfer of the Lille shot-stopper. Donnarumma has not agreed a contract extension, and the prospect of both goalkeepers remaining at the club is now a viable option.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Donnarumma is ready to accept this scenario and fight for the starting spot, much like his debut season in Paris in 2021, when he vied with Keylor Navas (Navas played 26 matches, the Italian 24). While this situation is far from ideal a year before the 2026 World Cup, he is willing to accept it.
Should he not depart this summer, Donnarumma could leave on a free transfer in June 2026. Concrete interest already exists from clubs including Galatasaray, Manchester United and Chelsea.
