{"id":2660,"date":"2026-10-12T20:48:20","date_gmt":"2026-10-12T12:48:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dxtynews.com\/?p=2660"},"modified":"2026-10-12T20:48:20","modified_gmt":"2026-10-12T12:48:20","slug":"uk-pm-burnham-insists-on-disclosing-mayoral-dealings-with-manchester-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dxtynews.com\/index.php\/2026\/10\/12\/uk-pm-burnham-insists-on-disclosing-mayoral-dealings-with-manchester-city\/","title":{"rendered":"UK PM Burnham insists on disclosing mayoral dealings with Manchester City"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/dxtynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-9.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2661\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dxtynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-9.png 1000w, https:\/\/dxtynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-9-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/dxtynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/image-9-767x432.png 767w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">British Prime Minister and former Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham stated he would share details of his communication with Manchester City, after opposition politicians criticised his response to a ruling that found the club guilty of serious breaches of the Premier League&#8217;s financial rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Manchester City appealed the independent commission&#8217;s ruling earlier this month as the club seeks to overturn the verdict and avoid potentially severe sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Premier League said City had used &#8220;sham&#8221; commercial contracts as part of schemes to inflate revenue and understate costs by more than \u00a3900 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">City have denied wrongdoing throughout the case and said the commission&#8217;s opinion contains &#8220;clear material errors&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UK&#8217;s Liberal Democrats earlier this month urged Burnham to disclose any meetings he had held with Manchester City&#8217;s owners, Abu Dhabi representatives or related entities. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has also called on the British government to release details of meetings between Burnham and senior City figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I&#8217;ve been asked by the leader of the opposition to publish details of my meetings, which I&#8217;m happy to do and I&#8217;m going to,&#8221; Burnham said in &#8220;The Rest is Politics&#8221; podcast, due to be released on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I will quite clearly put out there everything that I have done working with them in my previous role as Mayor of Greater Manchester.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Burnham, who served as the mayor from May 2017 to June 2026, said his contacts with the club were not recent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;None of it is recent, actually, in terms of the meetings I had.
