Everton survived an astonishing moment of madness at Old Trafford on Monday when Idrissa Gueye was sent off for slapping teammate Michael Keane to beat Manchester United 1-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Senegal midfielder was shown his marching orders<\/strong> by referee Tony Harrington<\/strong> in the 13th minute after putting his hand<\/strong> to Keane’s face following an angry altercation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The home crowd anticipated waves of attack, but United <\/strong>failed to take advantage of their numerical advantage<\/strong>, proving toothless against David Moyes’ battling team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, it was 10-man Everton <\/strong>who found the net, taking the lead courtesy of a wonderful strike<\/strong> by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall<\/a> in the 29th minute. Dewsbury-Hall received the ball and surged towards goal, beating Bruno Fernandes and Leny Yoro before bending the ball into the top corner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United <\/strong>huffed and puffed for the rest of the half, with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford<\/strong> clawing away a Fernandes shot<\/strong> from distance as the half-time approached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ruben Amorim<\/strong>, marking the first anniversary of his maiden game in charge of United, brought on Mason Mount<\/strong> for Noussair Mazraoui<\/strong> at half-time, but his team created little despite dominating possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amorim <\/strong>threw on midfielder Kobbie Mainoo<\/strong> and Diogo Dalot<\/strong> for Casemiro <\/strong>and Yoro <\/strong>in the 58th minute, but still, United <\/strong>looked blunt. Pickford <\/strong>kept out a powerful Joshua Zirkzee header<\/strong> with just over 10 minutes of normal time to go and Everton <\/strong>hung on for a famous win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

United <\/strong>came into the match at Old Trafford on the back<\/strong> of a five-game unbeaten run. Everton<\/a> <\/strong>suffered a big blow<\/strong> in just the 10th minute when they lost captain Seamus Coleman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But worse <\/strong>was to follow three minutes later with the scarcely believable bust-up between Gueye <\/strong>and Keane<\/strong>. Gueye <\/strong>is the first Premier League player to be sent off<\/strong> for fighting with a teammate since 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Premier League Match Centre posted on X: “The referee’s call of red card to Gueye for violent conduct<\/strong> was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the action deemed to be a clear strike to the face of Keane<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
