Real Madrid’s Franco Mastantuono admitted that Lamine Yamal is currently a step above, while also assuring that his “best version” is yet to come.
Real Madrid player Mastantuono, in addition to stating that he has yet to reach his peak, addressed several topics on the Spanish programme “El Larguero”, including the Merengue dressing room and comparisons in the press with another young star, Lamine Yamal.
The Argentine was asked who was better, and he did not hesitate to praise the Spanish international winger. “Who is better today? Lamine is better. The truth is that he is showing an incredible level. He is in an incredible moment.”
“I just arrived at Real Madrid. I am in an adaptation process that I hope will be fast. I hope I can quickly catch the rhythm of Europe and that it is a long story to tell with many matches,” he claimed.
Furthermore, he defined his teammate, the Brazilian Vinicius Junior, as “an incredible person” who “is questioned a lot, but in the dressing room always spreads joy” and played down the anger of ‘Vini’ when he was substituted in ‘El Clasico’.
“He apologised to Xabi Alonso and everyone. Obviously, his way of leaving was not correct. He recognised it and knows that he is important to the team. He is one of the captains. These are things of football that happen,” he added.
A Mastantuono who also praised the Belgian Thibaut Courtois and his compatriot, Dibu Martinez. “Courtois is the goalkeeper of the best team in the world and responds as such. He is a person who adds a lot and a goalkeeper who will go down in football history for the dedication he puts into training.”
“In Argentina, I get to be with Dibu, who is also incredible. I am lucky to have top teammates. The World Cup he had and how he defends the national team, with that love and dedication, is impressive. He does it with a lot of love, that’s why he is so recognised,” he highlighted.
He also insisted that, for him, the best player in the world is Leo Messi, with whom he shares a dressing room in the Argentina National Team. “I am a Real Madrid fan, but the best player and the greatest in the world is Messi, and until he retires, it will be like that.”
“I share with him in the national team, and it is incredible. He leaves you with your mouth open every time he receives the ball. It is admirable. Surprisingly, he continues to surprise us teammates. I have been with very quality players, but being with him is a learning experience every day. I thank him for how he has always handled himself with me. He has helped me a lot,” he assured.
