Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso said in the press conference following Real Madrid’s 1-0 victory over Juventus in the Champions League that Arda Guler, named MVP, is in the process of improving in every aspect of his game.
Real Madrid returned to Champions League action with a 1-0 victory over Juventus at the Santiago Bernabeu, continuing their good run against Italian teams at home. One of the key players in the match was Arda Guler, who controlled the tempo of the game from midfield throughout.
The Turkish player, who has been an indispensable part of Xabi Alonso’s team since the Spaniard took over at Madrid and is forming a lethal partnership with Kylian Mbappe, was praised by his coach in the post-match press conference, although the former Leverkusen coach demands more from him.
“Arda is in the process of improving everything because he’s 20 years old and has, I don’t know, 30 games with Madrid . With his age and the quality he has, we have to support him,” he said.
“He needs to improve his decision-making, the pressure so he doesn’t get overwhelmed, but he has a lot of good things: he gives meaning to the game, when he’s heavily involved in the game there’s a better team dynamic. Where does he play? It will depend on what the game demands. I’m very happy with his progress, but we want more,” he concluded.
