Reports indicate that Miguel Angel Russo is in a serious condition and receiving medical attention at home. The Boca Juniors coach has been battling bladder and prostate cancer since 2017.

Miguel Angel Russo, the coach of Argentinian giants Boca Juniors, is reportedly in a serious condition and is under medical supervision at his home, according to sources within the club.

The 69-year-old, who has been battling bladder and prostate cancer since 2017, has been on medical leave since late September.

Following Boca’s 5-0 victory over Newell’s on Sunday, Claudio Ubeda, the assistant coach who has taken charge of the last two matches, said: “We want to dedicate this victory to Miguel, who I’m sure was watching us on television.”

“Even though he isn’t physically present at training, he is fully aware of everything and the decisions we are making. That’s why I started by dedicating it to him. We care about him a lot and want him to get well. We wish him all the best,” Ubeda added.

Team captain, Leandro Paredes, also dedicated the emphatic win to the coach, sending him a message of “strength” for his recovery.

“This is an important victory for everyone, and we want to dedicate it to Miguel because he is the head of our group. What is happening is not good. We send him a lot of strength,” the midfielder stated.

Russo has been hospitalised three times in the past month due to complications with his health.

The last Boca match in which the coach was in charge was the 2-2 draw against Central Cordoba on 21st September, where he remained seated on the bench for the entire match.
