Cristiano Ronaldo led Portugal to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Germany on Wednesday night at the Allianz Arena, booking their place in Sunday’s final against either Spain or France.

Germany had looked strong in the first half, dominating possession and creating chances through the likes of Wirtz and Pavlovic. Wirtz eventually broke the deadlock after linking up well with Joshua Kimmich, and although Portugal protested for offside, VAR confirmed the goal.

The Germans continued to press, but Portugal stayed resolute. Conceicao’s solo thunderbolt midway through the second half gave the visitors renewed hope, and the game turned on its head.

Minutes later, Nuno Mendes picked out Cristiano Ronaldo with a pinpoint pass, and the Al Nassr star made no mistake, slotting home to give Portugal the lead.

Despite a flurry of late German efforts — including a shot from Adeyemi that struck the post — Portugal held firm. Tempers flared, with yellow cards shown to Wirtz, Dias and Fullkrug after a scuffle. But in the end, Roberto Martinez’s side marched on, with their eyes now firmly set on Sunday’s showdown.
