According to German outlet ‘BILD’, Florian Wirtz has informed Bayer Leverkusen about his decision to move to Bayern Munich in the summer. The 22-year-old midfielder is said to be uninterested by the interest from Manchester City and Real Madrid.
Florian Wirtz has been at the centre of transfer talk throughout this season after his stellar performances with Bayer Leverkusen in recent seasons gained the attention of giants across Europe. Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have all been in the frame for the 21-year-old, who has reportedly made his final verdict.
According to German outlet ‘BILD’, Wirtz has informed Xabi Alonso about his decision to join Bayern this summer, thus scrapping Pep Guardiola’s side and the 15-time Champions League winners as possible destinations for the upcoming season. Vincent Komapany’s side will have to splash 150 million euros to purchase the services of the player.
Man City had been targeting Wirtz as a replacement for Kevin de Bruyne, who will be leaving at the end of the season after he was not offered a new contract. With the German midfielder off the radar, the Sky Blues will be shifting their attention towards Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, who is reportedly keen on a move to the Etihad.
Wirtz’s exit is a huge blow for Leverkusen, who are also likely to bid farewell to head coach Xabi Alonso, with reports informing that the Spaniard is the favourite to take over from Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid. Meanwhile, newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern will be boosted by the arrival of Wirtz after he registered 16 goals and 12 assists this term.
