Real Madrid confirmed on Thursday that Kylian Mbappe has been diagnosed with a thigh injury following tests carried out by the team medics earlier today. According to ‘COPE’ and ‘Onda Cero’, the forward is set to be sidelined for ten days.

Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring for Real Madrid against Atalanta on matchday 6 of the Champions League, but his game came to an early end when he was substituted off with an injury. “Mbappe has some discomfort in his hamstrings. It doesn’t seem serious but we’ll see tomorrow,” said Real coach Carlo Ancelotti after Tuesday’s match. “He couldn’t sprint, it hurt him a bit and we thought it best to replace him.”

The discomfort on his thigh is now been confirmed to be an injury following a medical report released by the club this afternoon. “Following tests carried out on Kylian Mbappe today by the Real Madrid medical department, the player has been diagnosed with a thigh injury in his left leg. His progress will be monitored,” a statement from Real Madrid reads.

According to ‘COPE’ and ‘Onda Cero’, Mbappe is set to face approximately ten days on the sidelines to fully recover from the blow, thus ruling him out for the Liga fixture against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday. However, Mbappe is also in serious doubt to feature in the following fixture as ‘Los Blancos’ face the winner of Pachuca-Al Ahly on December 18 in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.

Before pulling up, the 25-year-old Frenchman had one of his best outings in the Madrid jersey since joining last summer from Paris Saint-Germain with three clear scoring chances, including one in the second minute. He scored the 50th goal of his career in the Champions League and his 12th since joining Real Madrid. Having started him in 22 matches so far in the campaign, Carlo Ancelotti is not used to rotating Mbappe and will have to find a solution for the upcoming outings.
