Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho has sparked headlines by expressing his admiration for Spanish winger Nico Williams and suggesting the Athletic Club player would be a good fit for Real Madrid.
On Tuesday, Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho voiced his opinion that Athletic star Nico Williams should consider a move to Real Madrid. Speaking ahead of their Europa League fixture, Mourinho heaped praise on the Spanish international, highlighting his potential to thrive at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
“Nico is wonderful. At the last Euros, everyone was talking about Yamal, Yamal, Yamal… who is obviously another fantastic young player. But personally, I prefer Nico. He is a fantastic footballer. One cannot think that a Turkish club could sign him. I hope he ends up at Real Madrid,” he told reporters.
Williams has been a standout performer in La Liga and for the Spanish national team. The coach’s comments underline the growing recognition of the 22-year-old’s talent, with the Fenerbahce boss stating that his skill set would suit Real Madrid’s style of play perfectly.
The winger has been linked with several top clubs, though Athletic remain determined to keep hold of their academy graduate, who has become a pivotal figure at San Mames.
