Cholo Simeone, after his Atletico Madrid’s 4-3 victory over Sevilla to close La Liga’s Sunday, appeared at a press conference. Asked if results like this one should give them strength for the conquest of titles, he recalled that the objective of their campaign is to finish in the top four of the La Liga standings.
Atletico Madrid coach, Diego Pablo Simeone, highlighted after the comeback victory against Sevilla (4-3) that means a streak of 9 consecutive victories, that this is the result of a “good work” that makes him “very happy” because, in it, “all the players of the squad” have participated.
“We have to keep improving. The team is working as a unit and I am very happy. When those who are waiting come in well, that’s the strength to sustain the game. It’s a sign that everyone is participating, that the team is going and going and going and everyone believes in what is being done,” explained the Argentine coach.
“The important thing is that the team, at all times, played a good game against a very strong opponent and found the goal in each of the important plays they had. Atletico had Griezmann’s crossbar strike, Gallagher’s penalty, Giuliano’s offside…. Despite everything, in the second half, their third goal came and the team kept looking for the way,” he added.
“The changes gave us more and came the 3-2 and, then, Lino’s goal and Griezmann’s goal,” he said, highlighting the merit of all. “It’s them (the players) who are doing well. Since we started, they have all played. Some have taken better advantage of their space and their minutes and others are trying to improve. I’m very happy about Lino’s goal. I hope it gives him confidence because we need everyone,” he argued.
Simeone praised Griezmann, scorer of two of Atletico’s four goals. “He is a special player. There are players who are different and Griezmann is,” he said. “With little, he gives a lot. The fourth goal is a great one,” he added. On Atletico’s chances of competing for the title, he said, “I don’t separate myself from the game by game, although the club’s goal is to finish in the top four.”
And, on the absence of chants from the supporters, Simeone explained: “The club’s first objective is to stay away from fifth place. After that, we go game by game”.
