Joan Laporta spoke to the media before the Cruyff Foundation’s Open Day. The Barca president was asked about the current situation of his team and sent, consciously or unconsciously, a message to Xavi, the former coach. “We have started well. Hansi Flick is working very well and is not looking for excuses,” he said.
Barcelona have got their smiles back on their faces. After the setback against Osasuna in La Liga, the ‘Cules’ beat Young Boys 5-0 in the Champions League. Joan Laporta is delighted with the way the team is going and ‘ ignores’, in fact, the Real Madrid setback.
“The game? We look at ourselves. We played a good game against Young Boys, we scored five goals against them. Now we have to think about Alaves. Then there’s an international break and it’s always good to finish with a win,” he said when asked about their arch-rivals, who lost to Lille in their last European clash.
As for the ‘Cules’ start to the season, he gave the team good marks and seemed to take a hint at Xavi: “We’ve started well. Flick is doing very well and he’s not looking for excuses,” he said.
“The issue of injuries is a problem, but we are overcoming it very well. Now some very important players are recovering, such as De Jong, Fermín, Dani Olmo, Gavi…”, he continued.
Laporta was full of praise for the German’s management, which so far has been impeccable: “There are many matches, the calendar forces us to have a competitive and large squad. The incorporation of home-grown players is giving very good results. Flick is very professional, he knew what he had and is managing the dressing room very well”.
