An up-and-coming member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has committed to the terms of a new contract.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Marc Bernal as the player in question.
Youngster Bernal is of course fresh off something of a whirlwind opening to the new campaign.
After breaking into the first-team setup of new head coach Hansi Flick in pre-season, the Spaniard, at just 17, went on to secure a starting berth in each of the Blaugrana’s first three La Liga outings.
In turn, it came as a blow for all associated with the club when, in the closing stages of a 2-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano, Bernal was forced off with what was later confirmed to be an ACL tear.
The starlet is facing up to an extended spell on the sidelines as a result.
Evidently, though, as much has not in any way affected the plans of those behind the scenes at the Camp Nou, when it comes to Bernal’s long-term future with the club.
As per a report from the aforementioned MD, in fact, the midfield conductor has this week signed a new contract with Barcelona:
‘All the documentation, according to this newspaper, has been signed. By his parents, by the player and by the club. The contract specifies that as he is a minor, the renewal is for the next two seasons plus three optional ones, until June 2029.’
Bernal’s new deal, expected to be made official over the days ahead, will feature a release clause set at a hefty €500 million.
