Cesc Fabregas and Como looking to go in for standout La Liga defender with bargain release clause

The revolution at Serie A side Como continues, with manager Cesc Fabregas leading a recruitment effort somewhat based in Spain. After the signings of Nico Paz, Sergi Roberto, Pepe Reina and Alberto Moreno, with former La Liga players Maximo Perrone and Raphael Varane also arriving. The latest on their radar is Las Palmas centre-back Mika Marmol.

The 23-year-old came into La Liga last season and was excellent in his debut campaign, for what was one of Spain’s best defences until the final 10 games of the season. Marmol has a €10m release clause, and Como are considering a move for him in the final days of the transfer market. His loss would be a major blow to Las Palmas and Luis Carrion were it to occur. As per Relevo, Barcelona have a 50% sell-on clause, and could gain €5m from the deal.

Marmol made the switch from Andorra last summer, and hasn’t looked back in a system that allowed him to defend high up the pitch and make use of his quality on the ball. If Como can do similar, then Marmol could be a top addition for them. The City Football Group at one point did consider a move for him earlier in the year, with Girona his likely destination.
