Conor Gallagher set for awkward reunion with Chelsea team-mates as Blues star returns to training with Atletico Madrid transfer in danger of collapse.
Gallagher spent five days in Madrid hoping to complete a move to Atletico, however, the deal could not be finalised after Samu Omorodion’s transfer to Stamford Bridge from the Spanish club collapsed at the last moment. Amid the transfer chaos, the Blues decided to call back the English midfielder, who arrived in London on Tuesday and is now all set to re-join first team training on Wednesday, according to the Daily Mail.
It is understood that Los Rojiblancos won’t be able to complete the Gallagher transfer until they part ways with one of their first-team players. After the failed Omorodion move, the club are now in talks to send out-of-favour Portuguese forward Joao Felix to Stamford Bridge and are negotiating a deal with the west London side.
Diego Simeone’s side have reportedly identified former Blues player N’Golo Kante as a possible replacement for Gallagher in case they fail to complete the move for the 24-year-old.
The Blues academy product, for now, will train under Enzo Maresca, however, he is unlikely to feature in the club’s matchday squad for their Premier League opener against Manchester City on Sunday as the player has been deemed surplus to the manager’s needs.
