Spanish national team coach Luis de la Fuente, who won the European Championship this summer, made a statement from his homeland in the light of the new triumph at the Olympic Games. The coach praised the national league, which he thinks is the best on the planet and that it is fundamental as a “seedbed” for ‘la Roja’.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente said on Sunday that “Spain and the Spanish national team have never ceased to be the benchmark of European football”, but “sport has its ups and downs”. The coach from La Rioja made these statements to journalists in his home town of Haro, in La Rioja, after unveiling a mural that the City Council has dedicated to him in the football stadium that bears his name as a tribute for winning the European Championship this summer.
De la Fuente stressed that Spain currently has “a generation of footballers who are an example of values for a society that needs them”. On this path and after witnessing, live, last Friday, 9th August, the Olympic victory of the Spanish national team in Paris against France, De la Fuente maintained “that the health of Spanish football is marvellous”.
He predicted “that the future for Spanish football is better than the present” and emphasised that, if “we continue to work with effort and enthusiasm, success will continue to come”.
After finishing the Olympic Games, football clubs are already looking ahead to the new season, which will begin on Thursday, 16th August, with the first match of La Liga 2024-2025. It is a competition that, for De la Fuente, is “the seedbed” of the Spanish national team’s triumphs and, therefore, “the best football competition in the world”.
