Arsenal fought back from an early deficit to claim a 1-2 victory over Girona in the Champions League, thanks to goals from Jorginho and Nwaneri.
Arsenal showed their resilience as they overcame an early setback to beat Girona 1-2 in the final match of the Champions League League League Phase. The home side took the lead in the 28th minute through Arnaut Danjuma who took advantage of a pass into space from Juanpe.
Arsenal’s response came in the 38th minute when Jorginho scored from a penalty after a foul by Arnau. The Gunners completed their comeback before the break with a great goal from Ethan Nwaneri in the 42nd minute to put Arsenal ahead.
Raheem Sterling had a chance to extend Arsenal’s lead but Girona goalkeeper Pau Lopez saved his penalty. With the win, Arsenal secured third place in the Champions League and set their sights on the knockout rounds. Mikel Arteta’s team showed character throughout the match, especially after falling behind.
For Girona this defeat marks the end of their Champions League campaign, as they finish in 33rd place with just one win and three points.
