Lautaro Spatz, teammate of Jesus Owono at Andorra, released a statement on Instagram to defend the goalkeeper following his tragic collision with Tenerife forward Jesus de Miguel.
“There are moments when football stops making sense. Moments that leave a mark forever and make you realise just how fragile life can be. What we experienced is something none of us will ever forget. A tragedy that has left us completely shattered, speechless, and overwhelmed by a sadness that is hard to put into words.
First of all, I want to extend my deepest condolences and all my love to Jesus’ family, friends, and loved ones, as well as to the entire Tenerife fanbase and the footballing world.
Since yesterday, the entire FC Andorra squad has been shocked, devastated, and reeling from what happened. It is a tragedy we could never have imagined witnessing on a football pitch.
I also want to say a few words for my teammate, goalkeeper, and friend, who is profoundly distraught over the incident. Those of us who know him know the kind of person he is, how much he is suffering right now, and that he would never intend to hurt anyone.
In football, freak accidents happen, but nobody could ever imagine one ending with such tragic consequences.
Today, football does not matter. All that remains is to share in the grief, show the utmost respect, and send all our strength to the family and everyone mourning this terrible loss.
Rest in peace, ‘Demi’.”
