Although Lionel Scaloni’s tenure at the helm of Argentina appeared to be drawing to a close, the ‘Albiceleste’ boss has dropped strong hints that he could stay on.
Scaloni met with ‘Chiqui’ Tapia to thrash out his future, with Argentina having suffered defeat in the World Cup final and now preparing to bid farewell to Leo Messi against Benin.
“The sporting project is fundamental. We are excited about it; that is the most important thing and what makes us want to reach an agreement. Otherwise, if I didn’t see the chance to compete and build something special, I wouldn’t have entertained the possibility of sitting down to talk,” the ‘Albiceleste’ boss told reporters at a press conference.
“We had a chat to see if we can move things forward and reach an agreement. We have only just started talking. We will try to get it done over the next few days. It will come down to striking a deal. The willingness is there, and that is what matters. When we have something concrete, we will announce it,” Scaloni added.
