Ferran Torres appeared on ‘El Hormiguero’ to reflect on his emotions after netting the goal that secured Spain’s second World Cup triumph.
“Thrilled to bring joy to the best country in the world,” was Ferran Torres’ initial reaction when asked to reflect on the World Cup campaign with Spain.
“When they played it to Pedro Porro, I just kept edging forward. I drifted around the back and burst into the box. When I saw the ball break towards Nico, it looked like an island. It is true that Iniesta, when he scored in 2010, felt everything around him vanish. I felt the exact same thing; I had that identical sensation, and in that split second, I sprinted towards the corner flag. I heard the silence for a second,” he recalled.
The forward has also learned to cope with scrutiny: “When you are enduring a rough patch, the whole process is about turning it around and transforming it into a step forward.”
“During the World Cup, I missed a couple of chances and faced heavy criticism, but if there is one thing I have learned over the years, it is that people talking about you means you are achieving something huge. That only fuels my motivation. Destiny is written, and it was meant for me,” he concluded.
