Kylian Mbappe dodged the ultimate question when asked to pick the greatest between Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking on the Ballon d’Or’s official social media channels, the Real Madrid forward played his “wildcard” to avoid making a definitive choice between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Laughing off the dilemma, he refused to separate the two icons and, despite the interviewer’s persistence, stood firmly by his “joker”.

That was the ‘final’ matchup between the award’s greatest winners, according to the Frenchman, who navigated several head-to-head brackets before reaching the decisive showdown.

He initially favoured Ousmane Dembele over Benzema, Rodri, Modric and Kaka, before leaning towards Ronaldinho, whom he subsequently dropped in favour of Ronaldo Nazario.

The Brazilian saw off Cruyff and Platini, but was eventually edged out by Zidane. France’s new manager fell at the semi-final stage, however, as Kylian Mbappe opted for Messi.
