The midfielder sustained a muscle injury during Tuesday’s final training session, ruling him out of the Champions League semi-finals and the rest of the campaign, according to Cadena COPE.
Atletico Madrid prepare for their most significant test of the season this Wednesday as they face Arsenal in the Champions League semi-finals. While excitement within the Rojiblancos camp is at fever pitch, their preparations were marred by a fresh injury setback on Tuesday.
As reported by Cadena COPE, Nico Gonzalez was forced to pull out of training with a muscle complaint. The midfielder is facing a three to four week layoff, which almost certainly rules him out for the remainder of the campaign.
It is the second injury blow in a matter of days for Diego Simeone’s side, following the loss of Pablo Barrios. The latter had only recently returned to the fold after spending more than two months on the sidelines.
Gimenez also remains sidelined as he continues to struggle with discomfort. However, there was better news regarding Hancko and Lookman, both of whom trained with the group and are expected to be included in the matchday squad. Meanwhile, Julian confirmed during his press conference that he is 100% fit.
