Vincent Kompany hailed his Bayern Munich side following their thrilling victory over Real Madrid (4-3, 5-4 on aggregate), which secured their place in the Champions League semi-finals. The head coach also reflected on the persistent danger of facing ‘Los Merengues’.

After dumping Real Madrid out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage on Wednesday, Bayern Munchen boss Vincent Kompany lauded his squad’s character, noting they never lost faith that their “moment” would arrive.

“It was an emotionally charged encounter. We controlled the play and always felt a goal was coming. But Madrid are Madrid; they are a perpetual threat,” the coach told ‘DAZN’.

“The players showed remarkable mental fortitude to overcome the challenges. The home support was also vital. We kept our heads, believing our time would come,” he added.

Asked if this was the most significant match of his coaching career, Kompany was clinical: “Yes, but the next match is always the most important. We stay focused,” he concluded.
