The former England striker highlighted his compatriot’s evolution throughout his career.
Wayne Rooney praised Harry Kane’s transformation throughout his career, classifying the striker’s evolution as “remarkable” and comparable to Cristiano Ronaldo’s development during his early career at Manchester United. For the former England captain, Kane is already among the greatest names in the national team’s history, backed by his overall goalscoring record and consistently high performance.
At 30 years old, the Bayern Munich striker is experiencing a highly productive spell in his career. He has scored 44 goals in 45 matches for the German club in his debut season. For the England national team, he remains the absolute leader: he has 63 goals in 90 games, setting new records and keeping England in a strong position for future competitions, including the 2026 World Cup.
Rooney, appearing on ‘The Overlap’ program, suggested Kane has the potential to surpass the records of England icons such as Peter Shilton, Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore, Gary Lineker, and Alan Shearer. In his opinion, the striker’s confidence and insistence on finishing from challenging angles are reminiscent of Cristiano Ronaldo’s style early in his career.
Former defender Jamie Carragher also highlighted the current form of the Bayern Munich striker. According to Carragher, Kane is still underrated, despite achieving statistics comparable to those of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in recent years.
Kane, therefore, is increasingly cementing his status among the elite players today, both in English football and globally.
