Andreas Christensen out of Barcelona’s plans, Arsenal monitor

According to Matteo Moretto, Barcelona are prepared to bid farewell to Andres Christensen as he is practically out of the club’s future plans. Barca could look to offload the defender as early as January amid interest from the Premier League.

Andreas Christensen’s time at Barcelona could be over. The defender, who suffered a tendinopathy in his left Achilles, has been out for the past three months and is set to be on the sidelines for another two due to a delayed recovery process. Despite a scheduled return in January, Christensen could see himself continuing to be sidelined at Barca, as Matteo Mortetto reports the Dane is no longer in the club’s plans.

Christensen was considered an untouchable player under previous manager Xavi, who opted for the 28-year-old 74 times during his two-and-a-half-year spell. However, with an already overbooked defensive department (Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, Eric Garcia, Sergi Dominguez) and the possible signing of Jonathan Tah, Barca seem reluctant to renew Christensen’s contract, expiring at the end of the season.

Although the plan is reportedly to let Christensen’s contract run out until he becomes a free agent in the summer, the ‘Azulgrana’ could also look to offload him in the January transfer window. Should Barcelona receive any offers during the month of January, the club will assess the situation before reaching a verdict on the centre-back.

Reports from Spain claim that Premier League clubs are monitoring the situation for Christensen, who has already played in the English top-flight during his time at Chelsea. Arsenal seem to be interested, as Arteta is reportedly looking for defenders should William Saliba leave the Gunners. The Spanish boss is said to consider the Denmark international approriate for the league due to his versitality.
