The Spanish Football Federation announced on Wednesday evening that it has received a proposal from La Liga and the La Liga clubs that the five professional football matches to be played in the Valencia region be postponed due to the DANA storm.
According to La Liga’s proposal to the Spanish Football Federation, two La Liga matches and three second tier matches could be postponed this matchday. The matches affected would be Villarreal-Rayo Vallecano, Valencia-Real Madrid, Castellon-Racing Ferrol, Eldense-Huesca and Levante-Malaga, all five of which are played in the Valencia region.
This territory has been the most affected by the DANA storm that is hitting part of Spain. The latest information already speaks of 95 deaths, most of them in the Spanish Levante region, due to the floods, flash floods and other catastrophes caused by the excessive rain and storms of the last few days.
For this reason, the two governing bodies of Spanish football are in talks, between requests and admissions of the same, so that football remains in the background and all the attention is focused on the search for the missing, repairing the damage and supporting the families of the victims.
This is the full statement from the RFEF:
“Given the current situation suffered in Spain by the DANA that has caused numerous victims and victims, with special affection in the Valencian Community, the RFEF has received, by La Liga and at the request of the clubs, the postponement of the matches of the 12th day of La Liga and the 13th day of the Spanish second tier that were to be played in the Valencian Community during this weekend: Villarreal CF-Rayo Vallecano, Valencia CF-Real Madrid, CD Castellon-RC Ferrol, CD Eldense-SD Huesca and Levante UD-Malaga CF.
Likewise, the RFEF, as has happened with the matches of the first knockout round of the Copa del Rey and with some matches of the CESA U14 and U16, will request that the same measure be taken in non-professional competitions played in the aforementioned territory.
In the rest of the La Liga matches, as in the rest of the federation matches, there will be a minute’s silence in memory of the victims of the DANA.
The postponement of Valencia Feminas-RC Deportivo has also been requested, and this request has also been extended to the rest of the non-professional matches played in the Valencian Community.
Spanish football wishes to express its dismay at the tragedy being experienced and sends its condolences to the families of the deceased”.
