According to reports in Spain, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is already planning the roadmap he will follow to sign Manchester City Erling Haaland in the next years.
Erling Haaland, who has scored 101 goals in three seasons at Manchester City, has a contract with the Sky Blues until 2027 but the possible departure of manager Pep Guardiola could mean his exit too.
The Norwegian star is happy with his current situation at the Etihad Stadium but he has repeatedly doubted his long-term project in Manchester. As a result, the club’s board wants to offer him a new contract to increase his buyout clause of £175 million.
But Barcelona president Joan Laporta is willing to disrupt City’s board plans, according to Sport. The Catalan giants want to take advantage of Guardiola’s departure to offer Haaland the chance to star at the new Camp Nou, in a bid to beat arch-rivals Real Madrid in the race for his services.
The Barcelona chairman wants to make the 24-year-old a media signing before the end of his mandate in 2026. Robert Lewandowski is the team’s current star striker but the Pole is 36 years old and will have to be replaced in the coming seasons.
Meanwhile, Erling Haaland’s desire has always been to have a career like those of Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, succeeding in different leagues throughout his professional development.
The Norwegian’s future is still up in the air but Barcelona are keen to negotiate with him and his inner circle until their ambitious plans are fulfilled.
