Adrien Rabiot has just signed for Olympique Marseille, however, he had the opportunity to play for Atletico Madrid when sporting director Andrea Berta came knocking at his door. Rabiot’s agent, Bruno Satin, has revealed that while conversations started, they never materialised due to the player’s mother, and representitive’s, eccentric demands.
Adrien Rabiot’s career has always been full of controversy. The player was once fined by the French Football Federation after refusing to be in the list of reserve players for the 2018 World Cup. Moreover, he had a rocky end to his time at PSG, as arguments struck between the two parties after the club publicly announced Rabiot’s decision to not renew. Now, after five years at Juventus, he has just signed with the Parisian’s arch nemesis Olympique Marseille.
Given that he was available on for free, it is surprising that a player of Rabiot’s calibre was not be able to find a club sooner. His decision to join the enemies, however, is even more surprising from the PSG youth product. Bruno Satin, from the organisation ‘BS&Partners’, accused Rabiot’s representitive, and mother, as responsible for the situation.
“Rabiot’s situation is the result of the people who accompany him. Is it normal that Adrien Rabiot, a regular in the French team, goes to Marseille? He is advised by his mother and in this case, it shows that it’s better to be accompanied by professionals because if he had been accompanied by a pro, he would be in a European Top 10,” he said to ‘RMCsport’.
The agent further revealed that Atletico Madrid, who has just signed Conor Gallagher, also knocked on his door. “I saw the sporting director of Atletico Madrid at the end of July. He told me ‘I had two conversations with the mother, I stopped immediately because she explained to me where her son should play.’ It quickly tires all the professionals, it’s unbearable,” he explained.
This is not the first time Veronique Rabiot has received criticism, as she was also accused of boycotting meetings between Rabiot and the ‘FFF’ by ex-president Noel Le Graet – the two parties were negotiating the 29-year-old’s return to the French national team. Furthermore, a few days ago, Juventus boss Thiago Motta ruled out the possiblity of a return for the French midfielder, to which the representitive responded publicly.
“There is no need to rule us out, coming back to Juventus was never an option we were thinking of” the mother said to ‘L’Equipe’. “When we make a decision, we take full repsonsibility of it,” she added. Hours later, Rabiot’s move to Olympique Marseille was announced by the French club.
